Moving... again.

That's right. We're moving. But luckily it's just a mile down the road into a house!
No, we didn't buy the house, we are just renting. Bummer. But in a few years hopefully we can get something that we really like for a decent price (Folsom shot up at least $50,000 in the last 7-8 months, crazy!).

But anyway, here's the house:
The front yard needs some loving (and actually we have already done a lot of work to it), but our main focus was the weed-filled backyard.

We told the owners we'll move in if the whole backyard gets re-done. Surprisely, the accepted every one of our demands. Except the main reason they accepted was because we (Tristan, Trent, Sheldon, and Nathan) did all the labor. The backyard with just the grass alone was approximately 2500 sqft. We wanted this backyard. Especially since a lot of the new houses in Folsom don't even come with one!

We had to re-do a sprinkler line and some sprinkler heads.
Then we used a sod cutter and got out all of the dead grass.
Thanks to Nathan we got that done in record time.
Then we had to get rid of all that dead sod (we're still in the process of disposing of it).

This is what Ellie, Caleb, and I did the whole time. Moral support.
 You guys are awesome!
Then we had to get top soil so the sod would have somewhere to put its roots.
I will say that Lesa and I did do some labor; we moved all this top soil that was left in the street (crazy people) and wheelbarrowed it over to where the grass would be. We also got a yard of rocks to put around the grass.
After that, we were ready for the sod. We had lots of help and put 2200 sqft of sod down in less than 3 hours. I was way impressed with these men. I should have gotten a picture of them all, but I forgot!
Here's the end result!
This whole process took over 2 weeks, but I think it was well worth it.
We aren't able to enjoy it for a couple weeks because the grass has to take root, but we're excited for when it does! Also, it's miserably hot outside right now (105), so I don't know how much we'd be out there anyway unless it was to play in the sprinklers.

Here's my list of Thank yous:
Tristan, for not giving up on your vision and seeing true potential in something I couldn't see.
Sheldon, for always being so optimistic and sharing your ideas.
Trent, for being a little more realistic, but still helping us because you're a good brother.
Nathan, for your big muscles and vast knowledge of landscape.
Jim, for your dolly and handyman knowledge of--well--everything.
Alec, for your funny personality and help with the sod.
Lesa, for shoveling the dirt in sandals and a dress and taking care of Ellie and Caleb so I could help.
Tabitha, for always being there the second I needed you.

We are practically all moved in, still a little more to do, but we are definitely loving it!

  4. Wow, that's beautiful! I can't believe how huge that backyard is! And all of that glorious grass! I'm still coming to terms with the fact that being in Arizona means I will probably never have a nice grassy yard like that... sigh.

I just updated myself on your life with these last few entries. Sure do miss ya. Those kids of yours are cuties. Can't wait to meet that little Caleb McPudgers.
